Abstract: Municipal and industrial wastewater management is a problem
worldwide, because it costs a lot of energy and hurts the environment by putting
too many nutrients in water. Traditional ways to treat wastewater have not showed
effective results. Consumpting a lot of energy and do not recycling resources are
still one of the main global problems. This article looks at using microalgae as an
affordable way to treat wastewater.
Microalgae can use nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater to
grow. This helps clean the water by reducing the amount of stuff in it and it also
helps take in carbon dioxide. The leftover microalgae can be turned into things like
fuels, plastics and fertilizers.
This presentation shows how microalgae take in nutrients, compares ways of
growing microalgae and discusses problems with getting the microalgae out of the
water. Using microalgae to treat wastewater can help us make an economy where
we do not just throw things away but make new things from them. Microalgae-
based systems can be a solution for modern wastewater infrastructure.
