This article examines English phraseology as it functions within the specialized discourse of electric power engineering. Drawing on corpus-based approaches and terminological theory, it analyzes the structural and semantic properties of multi-word units – including compound terms, collocations, and fixed phrases — that constitute the professional language of this field. The study identifies key phraseological patterns, discusses the challenges they pose for non-native speakers, and argues that explicit phraseological instruction is essential for effective technical communication.

  3. SOIL TYPES IN KAZAKHSTAN

Kazakhstan possesses vast land resources, spanning over 200 × 106 hectares of agricultural land and more than 23 × 106 of arable land. Due to its position in the center of the Eurasian continent, the country displays distinct horizontal (latitudinal) and vertical (altitudinal) soil zonality. This paper provides a systematic review of the primary soil types in Kazakhstan—including Chernozems, Kastanozems, Sierozems, and desert soils—and evaluates their specific agricultural applications. While the fertile Chernozems of the north support extensive rainfed cereal cultivation, the southern Sierozems and alluvial soils are primary sites for intensive irrigated cropping. However, approximately 75% of agricultural soils in the country face varying degrees of degradation, primarily wind and water erosion, humus depletion, and secondary salinization. This study emphasizes the necessity of conservation agriculture, such as no-tillage (NT) systems and optimized crop rotations, to ensure long-term food security and environmental sustainability in Central Asia.

  4. PLANT NAMES IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

This paper examines the linguistic structure, historical evolution, and cultural semantics of plant names (phytonyms) in the English language. Phytonymy serves as a rich repository of human history, reflecting changes in language, migration, colonial expansion, scientific progress, and folkloric beliefs. By analyzing the etymology, morphological compounding, and semantic motivation behind English plant names, this study demonstrates how vernacular nomenclature bridges the gap between scientific categorization and human cognitive experience. Additionally, the paper discusses the historical tension between Linnaean binomial nomenclature and folk taxonomies, highlighting how vernacular names preserve archaic metaphorical worldviews that formal taxonomy often discards.

  5. ENGLISH FOR BIOLOGISTS: A REVIEW OF STUDY MATERIALS

In the modern academic landscape, English has firmly established itself as the global lingua franca of scientific communication. For students and researchers in the biological sciences, proficiency in English is no longer a luxury but an absolute prerequisite for academic survival. It determines an individual's ability to access peer-reviewed research, collaborate with international colleagues, and publish findings in high-impact journals.

Consequently, higher education institutions have shifted their focus from General English instruction toward English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP). This pedagogical shift demands highly specialized instructional materials that successfully bridge the gap between linguistic structure and biological content.

  6. ENGLISH FOR ECONOMICS – TERMINOLOGY AND USE

This article explores the linguistic framework of English for Economics (EFE), a vital sub-discipline of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). As English remains the undisputed lingua franca of global financial and academic discourse, mastering its specialized terminology and stylistic nuances is essential for aspiring economists. This paper investigates the dual nature of economic terminology – specifically, the transition of ordinary vocabulary into highly specialized semantic domains (polysemy) and the integration of mathematical symbols into textual syntax. Furthermore, it examines the structural and rhetorical features of economic writing, such as nominalization, hedging, and conceptual metaphors. By analyzing these linguistic characteristics, this paper aims to provide student researchers with practical strategies for navigating, interpreting, and producing professional economic literature.
